This is a wide spread event. If you are traveling make sure to have ways to recieve alerts for the area you are in and all areas you will travel through.
The National Weather Service has issued a Slight Risk (level 2/5) for severe thunderstorms to develop on Friday March 14th through the night. A broken line of severe thunderstorms will move into western areas of Tennessee around midnight and push east. They will likely reach Putnam County around 4-7 am and are expected to weaken as they move east of Nashville. Potential hazards include damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail.

There is also a Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) for severe thunderstorms to develop Saturday afternoon through the evening. Potential hazards include damaging winds, tornadoes, and hail.

Heavy rain potential from Friday March 14th through Saturday night March 15th. This weekend's storms will bring 2 to 5 inches of rain to Middle TN. Periods of heavy rain will bring a medium chance for small steam and urban flooding. We will also see rises on local rivers.

If you do not live or work in a substantial structure, we have a Community Safe Places program. Community Safe Places are volunteer facilities, such as churches or area centers, who open to allow anyone to take shelter inside. These Safe Places are activated and open during a Tornado Watch. A Tornado Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for tornadoes to occur but does not mean a tornado is actively occurring. Please do not wait until a Tornado Warning to go to a safe place if you have to travel to get there.
Available Safe Places are posted on social media, the Putnam County EMA app, and on the NewsChannel 5 Nashville Safe Places webpage. If a Tornado Watch is issued, connect to us by these methods to receive updates. You can also sign up to receive text alerts at
