Register of Deeds

John Sanders

John Sanders was elected Register of Deeds in November 2022 to fill the unexpired term of the late Harold Burris. John began working for Putnam County in 2008 with the Putnam County Maintenance Department, and after 3 years accepted an opportunity to work in the Assessor of Property’s office where he served 12 years in various roles beginning as a Field Appraiser, next as Field Staff Supervisor and most recently as Chief Deputy Assessor.

John and his wife Charlotte have been married since 2003, together they have 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. John and Charlotte are currently raising their grandson John Andrew, and they very much enjoy community involvement.

John is a member of the County Officials Association of Tennessee and the Tennessee Registers Association. He has completed the County Elected Officials Certificate Program (CEOCP) through the University of Tennessee County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS) and has also completed the County Officials Certificate Training Program (COCTP) which designates him as a Certified Public Administrator.

In the short amount of time that John has been elected as Registrar, the Register of Deeds Office has completed an office renovation, updated their software program, added an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Reader to their indexing of documents, and has had all the Warranty Deed books back scanned and is in the process of making all of them accessible online. All of these improvements were done to improve the workflow and efficiency of the office.

The staff in the Register’s Office is under the experienced direction of Chief Deputy Register Rhiannon Allison, who has served in the office since 2013. Under her supervision, the staff has completed the (CAPC) County Administrative Professional Certification and is also working toward other certifications. Our staff strives to meet our goal to provide excellent customer service and convenient access to records.

I am honored to serve the citizens of Putnam County as your Register of Deeds, and we look forward to assisting you.

Our Mission is “To provide an accurate recording of public records to all who use the Registers Office. Our goal is to provide excellent customer service and convenient access to these records, utilizing the latest technology in an effective, cost efficient and customer friendly manner.”
